Jake Wood to turn on Salisbury Christmas Lights

Salisbury City Council is delighted to announce that the Salisbury Christmas Lights will be switched on this year by EastEnders Star, Jake Wood who plays Max Branning in the popular BBC One Soap on the evening of Thursday 19 November 2015.

Wood was born in Central London and trained at the Anna Scher Drama School in Islington, North London. His first acting role was in the 1985 film Flesh and Blood. He has since appeared in several television series including May to December, Minder, Only Fools and Horses and Red Dwarf.

Wood joined the BBC Soap opera EastEnders in June 2006 and has been a firm favourite with soap fans over the years and involved in some of the biggest storylines winning awards at both the British Soap Awards and Inside Soap Awards.

He recently took part in the 12th series of Strictly Come Dancing where he impressed the judges and reached the semi-final.

In May 2015, Wood announced that he would be taking a year long break from EastEnders. Wood said "I have been at EastEnders for nine years and I feel the time is right to give Max a break. It won't be for too long as I shall be back next year to see Max face another chapter of drama."

On appearing at Salisbury Christmas Lights Switch On he said, “I hear the crowd in Salisbury come out in their thousands for this event and I look forward to seeing them all next Thursday.”

This year’s Christmas Lights Switch On takes place on Thursday 19 November in the Market Place, Salisbury from 6pm – 8pm and will include live music, Father Christmas and much more.
