Celebrate Purple Flag Week!

on Tuesday, 16 September 2014.

Purple flag week runs from 27 September until the 5 October and to celebrate Salisbury City Council, Wiltshire Council and the Salisbury Business Improvement District have organised a host of markets.

The Purple Flag is an accreditation process similar to Green Flag Award for parks and Blue Flag for beaches. Purple Flag status is awarded to town centres that meet or surpass the standards of excellence in managing the evening and night-time economy with a positive initiative that indicates an entertaining, diverse, safe and enjoyable night out. Salisbury was first awarded Purple Flag in 2012 and again in 2013.

To celebrate purple flag week, events happen across the country to promote afternoon and evening economy. In Salisbury there are three key events planned for residents and visitors to enjoy.

On Friday 26 September there will be a Vintage Market in the Guildhall Square from 11am until 7pm offering an eclectic mix of vintage, antique and bric-a-brac stalls from

across the South West showcasing some wonderful items from by gone eras! You can also enjoy live music throughout the day from Sandy Ince and Fedora

Café, sample a tasty ice cream from Split Screen Ice Cream or tea and home-made cake from Tea & Sympathy!

Alongside the Vintage Market will be a French Market from 9am until 7pm on Friday 26 September and 9am – 5pm on Saturday 27 September. The French Market features Normandy Traders selling a wide range of authentic produce including bread and patisserie, pancakes, French cheeses and wines, leather handbags, olives from Provence and pâté with delightful French music to entertain you as you browse the stalls.

On Friday 3 October there will be a new event in the City. Foodie Friday will take place in the Market Place and Guildhall Square and is open from 11am – 7pm. This event offers you the chance to kick start the weekend in style with our exciting new event for 2014! The Foodie Friday Market showcases food and drink producers from across the South West. Come along and sample some tasty treats or purchase goodies to take home and enjoy over the weekend.
