Salisbury City Council’s Sunday Festive Markets are making a return to Salisbury Market Place this year. The Markets will be open every Sunday from Sunday 6 December until Sunday 20 December, 10am until 4pm, in the lead up to Christmas.

At Salisbury City Council’s Full Council meeting on Monday 16 November 2020, Councillor Liz Sirman was elected as the new Leader of the City Council following Councillor Jeremy Nettle stepping down from this position.  At the same meeting Councillor Simon Jackson was elected as the Deputy Leader.

As part of the festive offering in Salisbury City Centre this year Salisbury City Council will be erecting and beautifully decorating 12 large Christmas Trees throughout the streets. These combine to make a Christmas Tree Trail which will run between Saturday 21 November 2020 and Monday 4 January 2021.

Salisbury City Council is delighted to announce that the Secret Spitfire Charity has been awarded a grant for the installation of a fantastic new memorial in the city.

On Sunday 8 November, the Mayor alongside the Revd. Cannon Kelvin Inglis led the City’s Act of Remembrance supported by the Royal British Legion, a small civic party, representatives of the Armed Forces and fellow Councillors.

Salisbury City Council has made the decision to keep the Coach Station toilets and Lush House car park toilets open during the current lockdown. The remaining public toilets in the city will be closed during this time except the Market Place disabled toilet which will remain open during Market trading on Tuesday and Saturday only for public use.

Salisbury City Council intend to keep their parks and play areas open during the lockdown period. This decision will be reviewed regularly as Government guidelines are released. We ask that residents and visitors follow the advice below and the notices displayed on play area gates. Please be aware that only Queen Elizabeth Gardens, Churchill Gardens and Victoria Park are being sanitised and this takes place once a week on a Monday morning.

Following the government’s announcement on Saturday 31 October, Salisbury City Council is continuing to monitor all government advice with regard to the Coronavirus, and we are assessing its impact on the Council services, our residents and our staff team.

Salisbury residents are invited to the ‘Salisbury Civic Society Annual Open Meeting: The Impact of COVID-19 on the emerging Salisbury Neighbourhood Plan’. The online event is taking place on Wednesday 21st October 2020 from 7.00 – 8.30pm.  The event is free and open to everyone.

Salisbury City Council will be leading the City’s Act of Remembrance 2020 with revised arrangements to those of previous years.  Due to Coronavirus restrictions we are unable to encourage large gatherings of residents to pay their respects and there will be no marching troops, no cadets present and no service at St Thomas’.

Salisbury City Council’s Remembrance Poppy Project has unfortunately been postponed until next year.
