Due to the current situation and the government's announcement on Monday 23 March, Shopmobility will be closed until further notice.
Shopmobility is a scheme that enables people with temporary or permanent mobility difficulties to get about in Salisbury city centre and shop independently.
Members of the scheme can hire vehicles and walking aids that allow them to access the shops and facilities that Salisbury offers. The city centre provides good access for wheelchair users and those with walking difficulties, with numerous dropped kerbs, regular crossing points and widened pavements.
Equipment for long-term loans for holidays or trips is also available for hire.
Shopmobility Salisbury is able to provide equipment including:
- electric scooters (three- and four-wheel)
- power chairs
- manual wheelchairs (in various sizes)
- shopper walkers
Who can use Shopmobility?
The Shopmobility vehicles may be hired by anyone who needs assistance to be independently mobile in the city centre and local area. Members of the service are both young and older people.
You do not need to be registered disabled to use this service. Full training is given to every new member.

People with heart or lung diseases
Heavily pregnant women
Older residents or visitors

How much does it cost?
Registration to the scheme is £8.00. Equipment hire is £3.50 per visit.
How do I become a member?

What if I am unable to get to the Shopmobility office?
If you are unable to get to the office, Shopmobility can deliver the equipment to your desired location within the city centre. This could be the coach, bus or train station if you are travelling by public transport into Salisbury, or any location within the city centre that is convenient for you.
If you are not registered with us, we will collect you and bring you to the office to complete the registration form before being allowed to use the equipment.
It is always advisable to request this service in advance. Shopmobility relies on volunteers for this service and it might not always be possible to meet demand.
How long can I hire the equipment for?
Powered equipment is for daily hire, but we do have travel scooters that fold up and go into the boot of the car; these can go out long term at a daily rate of £4.00 with a £50.00 deposit.
