Two new projects for the City, funded by Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ Scheme

Salisbury City Council’s Community Development Team have been successful with two grant applications to the Tesco ‘Bags of Help’ scheme.

‘Bags of Help’ is Tesco's local community grant scheme where the money raised from the 5p bag charge in Tesco stores is being used to fund thousands of local community projects.

Salisbury’s Teenage Market this Saturday at Salisbury Arts Centre

The community development team are delighted to be partnering up with the Salisbury Arts Centre team to co-host the summer teenage market on Saturday 12 August.

The market will be open from 10am to 3pm inside the Salisbury Arts Centre. This is a great chance to come and have a look around and find out more about how to become a teenage trader or come and check out the fabulous handmade crafts and homemade bakery products.

Public Notice: VJ Day Commemorations 2017

Salisbury City Council will be commemorating the anniversary of the VJ Day marking the Allied victory over Japan in World War II with a short service at the War Memorial in the Guildhall Square Salisbury on Tuesday 15 August at 11am.

The service led by the Royal British Legion is held on 15 August at 11:00 and will assemble on the Guildhall Square ready to pay their respects and to remember the fallen, in a minute of silence and contemplation.

Salisbury City Council are holding a free event for the National Playday scheme on Wednesday 2 August in Churchill Gardens on Southampton Road from Midday until 4pm.

The National Playday scheme celebrates the right of children to play, highlighting the importance of play in children’s lives, and events are being organised across the country.

Salisbury City Council will be responding to the consultation on the Draft Wiltshire Housing Site Allocations Plan. The Plan is a formal Development Plan Document that has been prepared in accordance with the Wiltshire Core Strategy. It sets out proposals that:

• Revise, where necessary, existing settlement boundaries in relation to the Principal Settlements of Salisbury and Trowbridge, Wiltshire’s Market Towns, Local Service Centres and Large Villages; and
• Allocates new sites for housing to ensure the delivery of homes across the plan period in order to maintain a five year land supply in each of Wiltshire’s three Housing Market Areas over the period to 2026.

Street Food Sunday returns to Salisbury!

Salisbury Market Place will showcase a wonderful variety of street food vendors and stalls from across the South West on Sunday 30 July from 11am until 4pm for the City Council’s Street Food Sunday event.

Last year’s event saw thousands of people enjoying a wide selection of food and drink with all tastes catered for.

Vendors and stalls already confirmed include olives, organic bread, chutneys, Thai food, chicken fajita wraps, burgers, luxury cakes, fudge and many more!

Hop on Inn will also be there with their Routemaster Double Decker bus serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day.

Live music this year will be provided by Tom & the Clementynes, with their energetic rock and pop covers.

Food Demos will be hosted at Midday and 1.30pm by Danny Bozic, Head Chef & Proprietor of Charter 1227 Restaurant.

Budding Bakers are also encouraged to enter the Salisbury Bake Off Competition in association with Spire FM & Charter 1227 – Full details and entry forms can be found online.
