Excitement for the Wiltshire 2012 Festival of Celebration is building as two of the main acts are revealed.

The festival, expected to attract thousands of people, is being held on July 11 at Salisbury’s Hudson’s Field to celebrate the Olympic Torch passing through the county.
The winner of Wiltshire Council’s competition Shine 4 Wiltshire will be in the spotlight performing on the main stage at the festival. The Salisbury Plain Military Wives Choir saw off competition from 50 other acts to win. The choir, which began in January this year, proved to be hugely popular with the public and received more than 2,000 votes.
Some of the most popular acts who entered Shine 4 Wiltshire will also be given the opportunity to perform on the Wiltshire Stage which will also feature a community choir organised by BBC Wiltshire.

There is just four weeks to go until Salisbury’s Big Business event which opens its doors on Monday 23 April 2012 at 11.30am.

This three day event is completely free to attend and open to businesses of all sizes, including start ups.

The event which takes place at the Guildhall in Salisbury has been organised by Salisbury City Council, Trethowans, Federation of Small Business, Salisbury City Centre Management, Blue Frontier and Salisbury Chamber of Commerce.

From 1 April 2012, Salisbury City Council will be providing a new service in the City as it takes over the ownership of Salisbury’s Tourist Information Centre in Fish Row.

The Tourist Information Centre located at the rear of the Guildhall - also owned by the City Council - will continue to deliver a wide range of services and goods to both British and international visitors and locals who need information on the City and surrounding area.

Reg Williams, City Clerk said, “We are looking forward to taking on this new venture for Salisbury City Council. The centre provides a valuable service for overseas visitors who visit our City and surrounding area, and also helps an increasing number of British visitors who have chosen to stay in the UK for their holidays and short breaks."

Salisbury City Council and Ticklish Allsorts are once again organising the popular, family favourite St George’s Day event on Sunday 22 April in both the Guildhall Square and Market Place. This established free event is a great day out for all the family.

The fun begins at 11am with a colourful pageant starting from the Guildhall that will meander its way around the Square followed at 11.15am with a welcome from the Mayor, Councillor John Abbott JP.

Highlights of the day include, Bert and Dare, gravediggers with a plague cart, jesters, stilt walkers, wandering minstrels, battling knights and walkabout dragons!  There’s certainly something for everyone with many local entertainers taking part too; Sarum Morris Dancers, Christopher the Salisbury Giant and Hob Nob, Salisbury Playhouse Stage 65 Youth Theatre and the Salisbury British Legion Marching Band.

Wiltshire residents can now find out which streets the Olympic flame will travel through on its historic journey through the county’s communities.
The street relay route and many of the nominated torchbearers have been announced today (19 March 2012) giving people the opportunity to find out if the torch will be travelling along their nearest high street, through their town square or past their local village shop.
People can find out if Olympic Flame is passing through their street and exactly where in Wiltshire the London 2012 Torch Relay is taking place by visiting: www.london2012.com/olympictorchrelay
Wiltshire residents, who have been nominated for making a difference in their communities will be carrying the flame in a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Torchbearers were successful through the public nomination process run by LOCOG and the presenting partners Coca Cola, Lloyds TSB and Samsung.
The historic Olympic Torch will be passing through many of Wiltshire’s local communities in the exciting build up to the London 2012 Olympic Games and Wiltshire Council wants as many people as possible to line the route and celebrate this fantastic occasion.
