Salisbury City Council’s Community Sports Coaches were on hand to kick-start the activities being organised by Wessex Care Group as part of a Sport Relief fundraising event at Milford Manor Residential Care Home.

Active Salisbury ran several successful adapted games for residents from all five Wessex Care homes, including New Age Bowls, New Age Kurling, Beanbag shot-put and Discus, while some of the staff organised a traditional three-legged race!

Jodie Airey, Welfare Manager at Wessex Care said, “The residents within our homes enjoy taking part in various ‘active’ sessions on a regular basis throughout the year provided by our dedicated Welfare Assistants and also various outside assistance such as Theo and Ben from ‘Active Salisbury’ and Malcolm Burgar from the charity ‘Alive’. Being active, no matter how small or big that activity may be, lifts the spirits, promotes enablement and is always great fun. A huge thank you to Theo and Ben, who helped us to raise £210.18 for Sport Relief on the day!”

Salisbury City Council’s most prestigious venue has been awarded top marks as part of Wiltshire Council’s ‘Scores on the Doors’ scheme which is designed to give the public the opportunity to make informed choices about where they buy food or where they choose to eat. The scheme also allows the public to view the latest hygiene rating of a business following a programmed food hygiene inspection carried out by the Food Safety Team.

Claire Burden, Business Manager at Salisbury City Council said, “We are delighted to receive a 5 Star award from this scheme which is the highest star rating that can be achieved. The whole team at the Guildhall can take pride in this certificate. One of the City Council’s goals is to make sure its services are the best they can be and this has been reflected in our hygiene conditions and in how well the staff manages food safety at the Guildhall.”
