A familiar face returned to the High Street in Salisbury last week, as Gilbert the Flower Dragon took up his annual residency. Gilbert has appeared in the City for the last thirteen years and is a popular attraction for locals and visitors alike.
Salisbury City Council who own and maintain Gilbert, has also been busy decorating the City with floral displays and hanging baskets as part of the summer Salisbury in Bloom.
Last year the City won Silver Gilt as part of South & South East In Bloom and this year Salisbury City Council hope to do better.
Chris Stringer, Senior Parks Officer said, “Judges will be visiting the City on the 18 July this year and we shall be keeping our fingers crossed that we win gold in this iconic year for both the City and the United Kingdom.”
Fans of Gilbert are also encouraged to enter the annual colouring competition for children and young people living in the City. Entry forms for the competition will be available soon from the City Council’s website www.salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk and there are great prizes up for grabs for the lucky winners, so keep an eye on local press for more details.
Gilbert is also extremely popular on both Facebook and Twitter and often chats with his fans online. His pages can be found at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gilbert-the-Dragon/90131710980 and twitter at www.twitter.com/gilbertdragon1
