Our Competitions
Growing for Gold – Summer Competitions!
It’s not too late to enter the Scarecrow Competition or the re-vamped City Gardens Competition.
Gardeners entering this year’s Gardens competition will be competing for Bronze, Silver & Gold awards.
The competition is open to everyone in Salisbury. There have been excellent entries from private gardens, care homes and schools in recent years – we’d love to see more entries this year though! As well as entries from businesses too, from pub gardens in the city centre to the lovely gardens kept by our guest houses, hotels, cafes and restaurants.
If gardening isn’t quite your thing but you have a creative side then maybe the city’s Scarecrow Competition is for you. Open to all residents and organisations in the city this competition has seen a number of colourful and unique characters in recent years.
To enter either competition, download an entry form or pop into our Information Centre, Fish Row, (to the rear of the Guildhall) to pick one up.

City Gardens Competition 2010
Salisbury City Council was delighted to announce the return of the City Council Gardens Competition. 2010 saw many entries from across the city - from private houses to care homes and schools. The standard of gardens in all instances was excellent.
Judging was based on criteria ranging from quality of plants, design and layout to sustainability and good practice.
First prize in the Private Gardens category was awarded to Mrs J Tibbs for her effective use of space, clever choice of plants and her sustainable gardening methods. Second prize went to Mrs J Dolding and third to Ms G Kalinowski.
St Osmund’s School, under the guidance of Mrs Sarah Varney and Xanthe Dell, came first amongst the other entries. The school were commended on their range of planting, quality vegetables and a layout designed with pupils in mind. Second prize was awarded to the Little Manor Nursing Home. Third prize was awarded to the grounds of Turning Point, Meadow View.
There are many beautiful gardens across Salisbury in private homes; communal areas of residential homes and at local businesses.
