In 1227 – three years after the building of Salisbury Cathedral began – King Henry III granted a Charter to the Bishop of Salisbury to hold a fair on the third Monday in October. That same Charter granted the City permission to hold a market every Tuesday. Both Charter Market and Annual Fair are still held to this very day.
In 2014 the Charter Fair will run from Sun 19 - Wed 22 October in the Market Place and Guildhall Square. The Fair will open at 7pm on Sunday 19 October, and then from 11am - late Monday 20 - Wednesday 22 October.
